Brafford and Coleman Achieve Season-Highs as Bucs Fall at Radford

CHARLESTON – Saturday afternoon, just two days after an 84–67 victory over Presbyterian College, the Charleston Southern men's basketball team traveled to Radford, Virginia, for a matinee matchup against the Highlanders. Radford secured the season sweep over the Bucs with a 90–80 win.

Neither team got off to a particularly hot start, and five minutes into the contest, CSU reached double figures and took an 11–10 lead. Unfortunately for the Bucs, they would not hold the lead again for the remainder of the half. A Highlander layup gave Radford a double-digit advantage with 7:18 remaining in the frame (34–24). Over the final seven minutes of the first half, Radford continued to score efficiently, closing on a 16–6 run to take a 50–30 lead into the break. A category that has hurt the Buccaneers in several conference contests plagued the squad once again: turnovers. In the first 20 minutes, CSU committed 11.

Despite scoring more points in the second half than they did in the first, the Bucs never trimmed their deficit to single digits. The Highlanders shot over 46 percent for the second consecutive half, and 10 Radford players found the scoring column, lifting the Highlanders to a 90–80 victory — their seventh in Big South play.

Notables:

  • Four Buccaneers would score in double-figures: A'lahn Sumler (16), Nate Brafford (14), Jacob Taylor (14), and Trent Coleman (12).

  • Coleman's 12 points mark the first time the graduate student has entered double-figure scoring since joining CSU.

  • Taylor, the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week, shot an incredible 86% from the field (6-7) with only one turnover in 22 minutes of playing time.

  • Nate Brafford broke his career-high in scoring with 14 points – shooting 50% from the field and 4-of-7 from deep.

Up Next:

On Tuesday, February 17th, the Bucs will host Gardner-Webb University. The game was originally supposed to be played on January 31st, but was delayed twice due to severe weather. The Tuesday contest will tip-off at 6:00 P.M. and is set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
