CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team kept things tight through the opening half Saturday afternoon, but Winthrop used a strong second-half surge to claim a 77-55 victory inside the Buc Dome on Senior Day.

Tyonna Bailey paced the Buccaneers with 17 points and eight rebounds, while
Asha Sra filled the stat sheet with eight assists and a team-high nine rebounds in the setback.

CSU came out with energy and matched Winthrop possession for possession early. Bailey established a presence on the offensive end with seven points in the frame, but the Buccaneers shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the period. Despite keeping it within one possession midway through the quarter, Winthrop closed on a small run to take a 15-14 lead after 10 minutes. The Eagles began to find their rhythm offensively in the second, shooting over 50 percent in the period. Charleston Southern struggled to convert, finishing the quarter 4-of-17 from the floor as Winthrop extended the margin to 33-24 at halftime.

Winthrop delivered the decisive stretch coming out of the break. The Eagles shot 52.9 percent in the quarter to build a double-digit advantage. CSU managed 15 third-quarter points but could not string together stops as Winthrop pushed the lead to 55-39 entering the final frame. Charleston Southern continued to compete down the stretch, getting production from Bailey and steady playmaking from Sra, but Winthrop maintained control. The Eagles shot 58.3 percent in the quarter and extended the lead to as many as 27 before securing the 77-55 final.
