CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern opened their season at the CSU Buc Invite and 49er Classic on Friday for their first meets of the 2026 outdoor season. At the home meet, the Buccaneers had their throwers and most of their distance runners compete at it. While at Charlotte, their sprinters and a small group of their distance crew ran at it.
CSU BUC OPEN
Jones Barber won the 2K steeplechase with a time of 6:16.52 in his first time competing in the event.
William Reid ran a personal best in the 5K to claim second at the meet with his time of 15:09.74.
JD Gilman also had a solid showing in the event with a time of 15:14.69. In the 800m,
Justin Naylor had a time of 2:03.76.
Tarrell Miles claimed second in the discus throw at the meet with a best throw on the day of 45.01m. Miles won the hammer throw with a career best of 52.18m. Miles had each of his marks finish just outside of the school's all-time top ten for the throws.
Odin Ferency also had a solid showing in the hammer with a 48.27m.
The next event up was the javelin with the Bucs'
Landry Polk and
Jaden Bellush throwing in it. Polk threw a career best of 59.15m to slide up to second in school history while Bellush had a 54.57m in his collegiate debut for fourth in program history.
The final event of the evening was the shotput with Ferency tossing a 16.13m, just off his career best in the event.
49ER CLASSIC
Jayden Anderson opened the meet for the Bucs by running a time of 15.04 in the 110m hurdles. Later in the day, he ran in the 400m hurdles and had a time of 53.31 for fourth at the meet and just ahead of teammate
Luciano Custodio who had a 53.44 for sixth.
In the 100m,
Laden Beckwith claimed third overall at the meet with a time of 10.58 in his outdoor debut.
Aden Price won the 400m at the event with a time of 46.40 in his outdoor debut as well. The time ranks as the fifth-fastest in school history.
Hunter Adams and
Brennan Johnson also ran in event with them recording times of 49.83 and 50.43.
In the 200m, Price claimed second with a time of 20.86 while Beckwith was right behind in third with a time of 21.11. Price's time ranks as the fourth-best in program history while Beckwith's comes in at tied for 10
th.
In the distance events,
Collin Kleinhen led the Bucs in the 1500m with a time of 3:58.12. Also in the event were
Kaden Kleinhen with a 3:58.89 and
Jackson Lovvorn in 4:00.02.
Lin Scott ran in the 5K invite heat at the meet and had a time of 15:04.54 in the race. In the 800m, K. Kleinhen had the faster time with a 1:52.85 personal best while C. Kleinhen had a 1:53.72 and Lovvorn crossed the finish at 1:56.06.
The day came to an end with the men's 4x400m relay. The group included Anderson, Price, Johnson and Beckwith with them recording a time of 3:13.39 for the eighth-fastest in school history.

The Buccaneers will be back in action next weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State. The meet will be held from Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28.
