CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern fell to The Citadel in their second of two games to the Bulldogs this season on Tuesday evening by a final score of 15-5. The visitors put up an 11-spot in the fifth to get the victory.
Charleston Southern tallied a run in the bottom of the first which The Citadel responded with by scoring two in the top of the second. The Buccaneers put two up on the board in the second to regain the lead at 3-2.
After this, it was all Bulldogs as they notched a run in the third and fourth innings and then 11 in the fifth for a 15-3 edge. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bucs scored two, cutting their deficit to 15-5, but not able to prevent the run rule, ending the game after the seventh.
Kain Collins led the team at the plate with two hits and two runs scored. As a squad, they had seven hits and five walks drawn.
Caden Wolfley had two RBIs and
Cross Yarborough did as well as he had his first career home run in the contest.
Charleston Southern used seven pitchers in the ballgame.
Zach Stichweh started and threw the first 2.0 innings for the longest of those used.
Kayden Althoff threw the seventh and keep the visitors off the scoreboard, the only player to not allow a run to score.
The Buccaneers will continue their homestand with a home weekend series against High Point from Friday through Sunday. The first pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark with the game to be available live on ESPN+.
