CHARLESTON – High Point claimed the weekend series over Charleston Southern with a 14-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers were able to tally two runs in the first and second innings each to build an early 4-0 lead.
Charleston Southern got three runs in the bottom of the second to cut their deficit to 4-3.
Gavin Speirs drove a triple into the deepest part of center field to bring
Chandler Tuupo and
Nathan Martinez home. Later in the inning, on a dropped third strike, the Panthers' catcher had an error on the relay to first allowing Speirs to score from third.
After this, it was all High Point as they went on to score 10 unanswered runs, stretching their lead to 14-3 which proved to be the final score.
As a team, the Buccaneers finished with nine hits with
Caden Wolfley, Martinez and Speirs each picked up a pair. Speirs had the two RBIs on the day for the squad.
Titus Von Kapff started for the Bucs and threw the first 5.0 frames and collected seven strikeouts.
Corbin Payne pitched a scoreless sixth while
Hunter Porter threw the next two and
Bryson Huwar worked the ninth. Porter allowed one run while Huwar gave up two.
Charleston Southern returns to Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be available live on ESPN+.
