Charleston Southern Claim Individual Championships in All Three Finals Held on Opening Day of Big South Championships

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Charleston Southern completed the first day at the Big South Championships on Monday and sit in second place in the standings with 39 points through three events. The Buccaneers claimed three individual championships on the day to kick off the week.

The first championship to be held on the day was the hammer throw and the Bucs' Zemaya Carson won the title in the event throwing personal bests on each of her final two throws. Additionally, all six of her attempts were better than any by the rest of the field during the competition. Her best throw was a 57.80m on her final attempt to break the school record again this season. Lily Rowan also competed in it and took sixth in the field with a best throw of 49.24m.

Maeva Tahou had an incredible outing in the long jump setting a new personal best, school record, facility record and meet record in the event. She jumped a 6.27m on her second attempt to go up on the field by a substantial margin with no one coming within two tenths of a meter of her mark. The jump ranks as the second-best in Big South history as well.

The final event to be held for the women on the opening day was the women's 10K with Keerstin Augustin taking gold in the event. She becomes the first-ever winner of the event in school history as she won with a time of 34:59.25, nearly a full minute faster than the runner-up. Charleston Southern also saw Katrina Husby and Giada D'Agostino take fifth and seventh with times of 37:05.65 and 37:33.98. Husby's time is a new personal best and moves her to fifth in program history.

Monday also marked the start of the heptathlon and Chloe Greene is the leader through the first four events that were competed. She has a total of 3153 points and is up on High Point's Mya Hines by 60 points. Greene ran a 14.00 in the 100m hurdles for 978 points, jumped 1.60m in the high jump for 736 points, threw 10.51m in the shot put for 563 points and ran a 25.12 in the 200m for 876 points. The shot put and 200m both rank as new personal bests for her and the high jump ties it. On Tuesday, they will compete in the long jump, javelin and 800m to complete the event.

There were prelims held in three events on the day including the 400m hurdles, 200m dash and 1500m run. The Bucs sent all four of their entrees through in the 1500m with each earning advancement as a top four finisher in their heat. Going through to the finals are Freya Buglass, Lucy McNamara, Augustin and Charlize Antia.

In the 400m hurdles, Charleston Southern had four runners move on to the finals in the event. Brenda du Toit had the fastest time of the CSU entrees with a 1:00.45 with Grenisha Thomas, Greene and Barbara de Kock also moving on.
