CHARLESTON – Radford took the first game of the weekend series in extra innings by a final score of 4-3.
The Highlanders were the first to get on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the top of the first. Charleston Southern answered back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth by
Chandler Tuupo that scored
Caden Wolfley.
Radford tacked on another off a solo homer to left field off the scoreboard in the sixth inning. In the bottom half,
Mason Reising had a pinch hit sacrifice fly to score
Alex Marot and bring it level at 2-2.
In the seventh, Charleston Southern got their first lead of the day with
Kain Collins reaching on a fielder's choice that scored
Ethan Reader. The Highlanders had an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to tie it up yet again, this time at three apiece.
In the tenth, Radford was able to get the bases loaded and had an RBI single by Noah Toole in the inning score the decisive run.
As a team, Charleston Southern finished with eight hits as Collins, Pringle and Edgmon each had a pair. Collins, Tuupo and Reising all tallied one RBI apiece.
Titus Von Kapff earned the start and threw the first six innings allowing just two earned runs in the outing. He gave up four hits and two walks as well while striking out three batters.
Hayden Henry and Drew each threw two frames allowing one earned run and giving up three hits. Henry struck out two batters while Dawson retired four by it and picked up the loss.
The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark with the game to be available live on ESPN+.
