EUGENE, OREGON – Charleston Southern's
Maeva Tahou opened up her time at the NCAA Championships on Thursday evening in the long jump and recorded a First-Team All-American performance. She jumped 6.56m in the event to claim fifth overall nationally.
Tahou started her series with a pair of 6.43m jumps to rank near the top of the leaderboard, but needed a better one to move to the finals. On her third attempt, she went 6.56m (21' 6.25") to move up to fifth in the standings and have herself well above the cut line. The mark ranks as a new personal best, school record and conference record. She fouled on her fourth attempt and had a 6.39m and 6.52 on her fifth and sixth jumps.
Tahou becomes the first-ever Buccaneer to score in an individual event in school history and the highest-ever finish in any event in program history. The only other time CSU has scored points at the NCAA Championships came in 2009 when the 4x100m relay squad claimed 8
th in the finals.
Tahou's week is still yet to be completed as she will compete on Saturday at 8:10 p.m. in the triple jump. She enters the event seeded 25
th nationally with a career and season best jump of 13.34m.
