CHARLESTON – The Charleston Southern women's soccer team battled back twice, but Central Michigan scored the decisive goal in the late in the second half as the Buccaneers fell 3-2 to the Chippewas Thursday afternoon.
Central Michigan opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Jordan Bailey converted a pass from Naomi Phillips. Charleston Southern answered less than two minutes later, as
Delaney Evers found the back of the net in the 37th minute to even the match at 1-1. The Chippewas regained the lead in the 40th minute when Phillips converted a penalty kick, sending Central Michigan into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
The Buccaneers responded in the second half when
Rowyn Serne scored in the 67th minute, with
Katie Hoffman and Evers providing assists to tie the match at 2-2. Central Michigan answered 10 minutes later as Rachel Jackson scored off assists from Ella Betzold and Melaina Troy to give the Chippewas the eventual game-winner.
CSU finished with 19 shots, including five on target, and earned eight corner kicks. Serne led the Buccaneers with four shots, while Hoffman and
Campbell Taylor each recorded three. Evers finished with a goal and an assist, while Serne also found the back of the net.
