Sutton Achieves 1,000th Career Assist as VolleyBucs Dominate in Home Opening Match Against The Citadel

CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern volleyball opened the Playa Bowls Invitational with a dominant 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-15) victory over The Citadel on Thursday night inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse.

The Buccaneers improved to 5-3 on the season with the victory, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-5. The win marked the second time Charleston Southern has defeated The Citadel this season after earning a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs on September 5th as part of the Lowcountry Volleyball Championship.

Charleston Southern controlled the match from the opening serve, recording 42 kills while hitting .352 as a team. The Bucs also finished with 11 service aces and 39 digs while limiting The Citadel to a .157 hitting percentage.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 25-13 victory in the opening set, hitting .429 with 14 kills and just two attack errors. Charleston Southern continued its offensive momentum in the second set, earning a 25-20 decision behind another 14 kills. The Bucs then closed out the match with a 25-15 third-set victory, hitting .407 in the final frame.
 

Notables:

  • Tristin Sutton directed the Buccaneer offense with 19 assists while adding nine digs and a kill. In set two, she recorded the 1,000th assist of her college career – the 14th player in CSU Volleyball history to reach the milestone.

  • Brynn Minter led the Charleston Southern attack with 11 kills while adding a career-high seven service aces, six digs and 18 points.

  • Faith Burch followed with nine kills on 14 attempts while hitting an impressive .571.

  • Jenna Kitchens contributed seven kills while hitting a .385.

  • Dillia Lowry added five kills on six attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. Emma Bednarek also recorded five kills while hitting .400.

  • Cara McLean contributed 15 dimes and collected her 500th career assist.

  • Presley Morris and Adeline Wieler combined for 17 digs and 3 service aces.

Friday night, September 11th, Charleston Southern will host Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 PM for day two of the Playa Bowls Invitational at CSU. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
