Shane Fernald

Shane Fernald joined CSU in June 2026 as a Graduate Assistant for the men’s basketball program.

Prior to joining the Buccaneers, Fernald was a student-athlete at Hampden–Sydney College in Virginia. During his four years with the Tigers, he helped lead the program to a 93-26 overall record. During the 2024-25 season, Hampden-Sydney advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16, while Fernald earned First-Team All-ODAC and Second-Team All-State honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors. In 2023-24, Hampden-Sydney captured the ODAC Championship and finished as the runner-up in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Also during the 2024-25 season with the Tigers, Fernald was voted team captain. In his role, he met frequently with the coaching staff and members of the leadership committee to discuss team standards and expectations.

Fernald graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 2026 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in rhetoric.
