Box score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern gave Liberty every run they had in Big South action Saturday, but were unable to slow down the offense of the Flames, as they dropped an 80-95 contest at the CSU Field House. CSU shot better than 48 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the line, but couldn't slow down Liberty, who shot 56 percent for the game. CSU moved to 7-17 on the year with a 2-11 conference record, while Liberty improved to 19-8 overall and 10-5 in the Big South.

Omar Carter posted his seventh double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 boards, leading the way for the Bucs. CSU also got a big lift from Jamarco Warren, who had 21 points on 8-14 shooting, including 5 threes. For the Flames, Seth Curry led all scorers with 28 points, with help from Anthony Smith who had 24.

The Bucs got off to a quick start with back-to-back threes from Warren and Austin Johnson. Liberty, however responded with a 16-4 run to take a 16-10 lead with 14:17 on the clock. CSU had five unanswered points, but the Flames held on to the lead after several traded baskets.

Liberty extended their lead out to seven, but a Warren three put the score at 22-26 with 8:31 left in the half. CSU had trouble cutting into the lead, but consecutive baskets from Johnson and Carter pushed the score to 30-34 with 3:04 remaining in the half.

The Bucs trailed by just three at one point, but a 7-0 run helped the Flames to the biggest lead of the game at 46-36. Tovi Bailey hit two big free throws with 4 seconds on the clock, making it a 38-46 halftime score.

Carter led the Bucs heading into the locker room with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Warren had two big threes en route six points in the first 20 minutes. The Bucs struggled to slow down Curry, who had 19 points to lead all scorers.

Warren's two first half threes were also significant to the CSU record books, as he broke the school record for single season threes. The record was set just a year ago at 81 by teammate Chris Moore, but Warren now sits on top with 85 threes to date.

Two JT Knight free throws put CSU on the board first in the second half, with a 38-46 deficit. The Bucs went on to surge for an 11-0 run, thanks in large part to two Warren threes, tying things up at 55 apiece. The Flames however, responded with their biggest run of the game, taking back a 67-57 lead, with 13 minutes on the clock.

CSU cut the lead back to six after four consecutive Quinton Goods points, making it a 63-69 score. Liberty managed another 8-1 run, this time taking their biggest lead at 77-64 with 8:05 remaining in the game.

Another run cut the deficit to six, but the Bucs were unable to hold off the Liberty offense. A Warren layup had the score at 74-83 with 5:03 on the clock, but it was all Flames from that point. Liberty led by as many as 18 before a final 80-95 score, that gave head coach Ritchie McKay his 200th career victory.

CSU will have another chance to defend their home court vs. Radford on Monday, February 16th, in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
