CLINTON, S.C. - For a second straight day, Charleston Southern's pitchers were roughed up by a hot-hitting Presbyterian College team, as the Buccaneers fell, 10-1, Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. CSU has now lost five consecutive games.

One day after allowing five fatal Blue Hose runs in the 7th inning as part of a 12-7 defeat, the Buccaneers were touched up for seven runs in the 3rd frame. CSU (15-23, 4-9 Big South Conference) has now given up at least seven runs in an inning in four separate games this season.

Chris Powell (5-1) pitched a gem for the Blue Hose and picked up the win. He threw eight innings and allowed just a single run while striking out nine Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers got off on the wrong foot, giving up a pair of runs in the 1st inning. Tony Micklon brought home a tally with a sacrifice fly, and Kenny Bryant made the score 2-0 when he scored on a double steal attempt.

Presbyterian (11-23, 3-8 Big South Conference) blew the game open with seven runs in the 3rd inning. The Blue Hose sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning, including Gabe Grammer, who tallied a single, a triple and two RBI in the frame. Buccaneer starter Tyler Thornburg was knocked out of the inning after allowing the final six hitters he faced to reach base.

Charlie McCready's solid relief performance was the highlight of the day for the Buccaneers. The southpaw gave up just one run in 4.2 innings on the mound, his finest outing of the season. PC's only run against McCready came in the 7th, when Nate Horton scored on a wild pitch.

CSU finally broke though in the 8th inning, when Derek Smith singled home Jaren Sustar. The RBI was Smith's first since April 2, against Radford.

Thornburg (5-2) had his roughest outing of the season, giving up nine runs (eight earned) in just 2.1 innings. He walked three while striking out three.

Grammer was the hitting hero for the home side, going 3-for-5 on the day. Bryant was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. On the CSU side, Matt Still and Patrick Dolan each had two hits. The Buccaneers failed to record an extra-base hit.

CSU will look to salvage the final game of the series when Andrew White (1-3, 5.23) takes the mound on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
