CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Head Coach Barclay
Radebaugh provides his thoughts after CSU's 70-69 setback to
Liberty Saturday, Feb. 5.
Coach Radebaugh
On the keys to the end of the game:
It comes down to boxing out. Giving up 14 offensive rebounds
is, you know, it's tough to win college basketball games giving up
that many offensive rebounds.
On the defensive execution:
We stepped over to help, and then didn't go back to our man
and box out. When you do that, that opens up a lane for the post
players to come in on a miss. You know, you get their guards
shooting contested 8-foot shots, and then our posts are sliding
over and then we don't go back and box out. So they just play
volleyball with it up there.
On the team's opportunities toward the end of the
contest:
Even with all that; if we get two box-outs there at the end,
we win, or have a chance to win, and put ourselves in a position to
have the ball with eight or nine seconds. I like our chances.
On CSU's last-minute shot attempts:
You know, we had a look, had a look from three late in the
game. If it goes down, we're up two. So, I give our guys a lot of
credit for playing hard, and hopefully we can continue to work on
fundamentals of boxing out.
On where the team stands heading forward:
We're disappointed, and it's one that hurts, but we got to go
get one on the road now. We got to get one on the road, and that's
just what it comes down to. We gotta protect our home court in the
last three at home, and put ourselves in the position to go into
the tournament with a top-4 seed. This team is capable of that,
and, you know, certainly we feel like we're one of the better teams
in the league, and I think our effort was tremendous tonight. Our
effort was very much good enough to win. Our execution wasn't.
