The win brings the Bucs' record to 12-11 on the season and 1-3 in the Big South. The loss drops the Highlanders of Radford to 13-8 overall and 0-1 in the Big South. CSU has defeated RU in five of their last eight meetings.

Getting the win for CSU was RHP pitcher Stew Brase. After giving up three runs in the first, Brase settled down and went deep in the game for the Charleston Southern. Brase went 5.0 innings for CSU this afternoon. His record on the season goes to 3-2.

The Buccaneers responded to the Highlander's three run first inning with a big inning in the second. They would plate five runs with two outs on the board. A single by senior captain Chinners into the gap on a breaking ball down the middle scored both Brandon McKinney and Meier. Sustar would step into the batter's box and hit another ball into the right field gap. Sustar's double would bring in both Chinners and Derek Smith, who scored on a close diving play at the plate.

Charleston Southern would have another big inning in the fifth. Plating three runs to take the lead at 9-6.

The Bucs would go on to score a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings further stretching out their lead.

The Buccaneers continue to get good work from their middle relievers this season. Pitching the final four innings for the Buccaneers was junior left hander Charlie McCready. McCready threw four consecutive scoreless innings for the Buccaneers and gets his first save of the season. Another stellar outing from McCready has pushed his ERA to an amazing 0.36 in 25.1 innings pitched this season.

CSU and Radford will meet again tomorrow for the second game of the Buccaneer's first Big South series at home. Due to weather concerns on Sunday, the two teams will play a double header on Saturday, starting at 11:30 a.m.
