ATHENS, Ga. - Despite holding the Bulldogs scoreless in four different innings, the CSU baseball team couldn't find an offensive rhythm and fell to No. 30 Georgia 8-1 on Tuesday evening at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

The Bucs (17-14) and the Bulldogs will face off again tomorrow in a 5 p.m. contest in Athens.

Seniors Derek Smith led the Buccaneer effort, going 1-for-3 and scoring the team's lone run. Walt Quattlebaum went 1-for-4 to earn the RBI on Smith's run, while Jaren Sustar went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases.

Ali Williams got the start and took the loss, giving up five runs and six hits while striking out two in 2.0 innings. Brennan Dorsett came in to relieve Williams, and gave up two runs off of five hits in 5.0 innings. Dorsett also struck out three and walked none.

Bulldog Chase Hawkins earned the win, holding the Bucs scoreless and striking out two in 6.0 innings. Peter Verdin was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI as well as two stolen bases. Kyle Farmer was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI for UGA.

Neither team put a run on the board in the first inning, and the Bulldogs were also held the Bucs scoreless in the second. Jonathan Hester tripled to center field before making it home on a bunt by Verdin to put UGA up 1-0. Farmer doubled soon after, driving home Verdin and Levi Hymes to make it 3-0. Zach Cone singled to left field in the next at bat, sending Farmer and Curt Powell Across home plate to give Georgia a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

The Bulldogs padded the lead in the bottom of the third, with Brett DeLoach scoring on a groundout by Hester to make the lead 6-0. The two teams played three more scoreless innings before Georgia added another run on a solo homer by Chase Davidson that put Bulldogs ahead 7-0.

UGA added their final run in the bottom of the eighth, as Farmer singled to bring Conor Welton home to put the score at 8-0. Half an inning later, the Bucs got on the board. Smith was walked and was able to make it home when Quattlebaum singled to center field. However, it was too little too late as the Bucs took the 8-1 loss.
