Box Score Box score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Buccaneers of Charleston Southern defeated the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College at a score of 11-9. Thie win gives the Buccaneers their fifth consecutive Big South victory, putting them alone in third place in the Big South standings with a 14-9 conference record. The 14 wins ties the all-time program record for Big South wins in a season. Having another great day for Charleston Southern was sophomore third basemen Jaren Sustar who went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBI. Sustar has been hitting exceptionally well as of late going 10-for-14 in the Bucs' last three games.

Today's game at CSU Ballpark was very similar to yesterday's series opener in that there was no shortage of offense from either team. The teams combined for a total of 28 hits today, this after combining for 33 the in yesterday's contest.

Getting the win for CSU on the mound was southpaw reliever Charlie McCready who is now 5-2 on the season. He went 5.2 innings and surrendered only one earned run to Presbyterian.

The Buccaneers would allow a run in the first inning, but like yesterday would respond in the bottom of the first with a five run inning. That inning included a two-run homer from senior designated hitter Derek Smith who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. That gave the Bucs a four run lead with the score at 5-1.

The Blue hose would respond in the top of the second by plating three runs to make the score 5-4, but the Bucs would add to their lead in the third with RBIs from centerfielder Brantley Meier and senior catcher Blake Hunt, bringing the Bucs' lead to 7-5.

CSU would get another big inning in the bottom of the fifth, after a single from Alex Tomasovich, senior outfielder Matt Still doubled down the left field line and into the corner to score Tomasovich from first. Still had another good day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two RBI after coming up a home run short of the cycle in yesterday's contest.

The Bucs' lead grew to six runs, but Presbyterian would make it interesting down the stretch with a three run homer in the top of the eighth. That home run narrowed the margin to three runs heading into the ninth. However, the Blue Hose rally would fall short in the ninth for Presbyterian as they were only able to muster one more run before the threat was quelled by the Bucs.

CSU will look to break the program record for Big South wins in a season when they conclude their final Big South home series with the rubber match against Presbyterian college tomorrow. A win tomorrow would also complete the third Big South sweep of the season for the Buccaneers. First-pitch at CSU ballpark is scheduled for 2 p.m.
