HIGH POINT, N.C. - Senior Nick Chinners singled through the right side in the top of the sixth inning, becoming Charleston Southern's all-time hits leader as the Buccaneers downed Big South foe High Point by a score of 5-3 on Friday evening at Williard Stadium in High Point, N.C.

The Buccaneers improve to 10-9 in the Big South and 23-23 on the season. They will face the Panthers again on Saturday in a 7 p.m. game at Williard Stadium.

Chinners went 1-for-5 on the night in recording his record-breaking 245th career hit. The senior first baseman had previously tied Jordan Haar's record of 244 career hits on Wednesday in the Bucs' loss to Georgia Southern.

Jaren Sustar was 3-for-5 on the night, while Walt Quattlebaum went 2-for-5 with two runs. Despite not recording a hit in the game, Derek Smith accounted for two more of CSU's runs. Brantley Meier had two hits and an RBI, while Drew Woodall recorded a hit and an RBI as CSU out hit High Point 9-5.

Starter Stew Brase threw seven innings, giving up five hits and three runs. He also walked three and struck out three before being relieved by Corey Deighan. Deighen did not surrender a hit in 2.0 innings, while striking out two. Brase picked up the win, moving to 4-6 on the season.

Drew Geissinger, Steve Antolik and Ryan Retz each had a hit and a run for the Panthers, with Retz also driving in a run. Scott Glover was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Cody Allen got the start for High Point, giving up five runs off of nine hits in 7.1 innings. He also struck out nine and walked three in taking the loss.

Neither team got on the board through the first four innings. In the first at-bat of the fifth innings, Quattlebaum doubled down the left field line before advancing to third on a groundout by Matt Still. Quattlebaum was then able to make it home on a sacrifice fly by Alex Tomasovich to put the Bucs up 1-0. Chinners singled through the right side in the top of the sixth to pick up his record-breaking hit, but couldn't make it home.

CSU added to the lead in the top of the seventh. Tomasovich walked to start the inning off and stole second. Smith reached on an error, bringing Tomasovich to third before a sac fly by Drew Woodall brought him home and put CSU ahead 2-0. Meier doubled to left field to score Smith, putting the score at 3-0 in favor of Bucs.

Quattlebaum singled to the left side in the top of the eight and stole second before making it home on a High Point error. The next three batters, Woodall, Meier and Tom Burkett; were all hit by pitches. Burkett picked up the RBI as Smith scored and put CSU ahead 5-0.

The Panthers put up their first run of the night in the bottom of the eighth inning. Geissinger singled to center field, with Antolik hitting a double to center field right after. Geissinger then made it home when Retz singled to left field, cutting the deficit to four at 5-1. Antolik scored on a ground out to make it 5-2 still in favor of the Bucs. Retz added HPU's third run of the night on a sac fly by Glover, but the CSU pitching staff wouldn't give up another run as the Bucs took the 5-3 win.
