SAVANNAH, Ga. - Charleston Southern's left 11 men on base and dropped a close game to Savannah State, 3-2, on Wednesday evening in Savannah, Georgia. The Bucs tallied seven hits and drew four walks but dropped their third straight game.

Senior Blake Hunt paced CSU offensively with a pair of hits and an RBI. Buccaneer starter Kyle Ward took the loss after allowing three runs in the second. Ward worked into the fifth before giving way to Denis Buckley. Buckley allowed just one hit over the final four innings.

CSU jumped on top, 2-0, in the second inning. Freshman Chase Shelton led off with a single. Two batters later, Brian Welch laced his second triple of the season into the right field corner, scoring Shelton and giving the Bucs an early 1-0 lead. With two outs, Hunt legged out an infield single to score Welch for the early advantage.

The Tigers wasted no time in responding, however. Ian Ferris delivered a one-out single. After a pair of walks, Barry Truitt grounded out to score a run and Darien Campbell followed with a two-run single to put the Tigers on top, 3-2.

Pitching dominated play over the final seven innings. Charleston Southern had an opportunity to tie the game in the ninth inning but Matthew Oglesby made a great play on a hard comebacker from Shelton that stranded Ison on third to end the game.

The Bucs resume play this weekend, hosting Penn in a three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday's single game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
