Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – Radford's James Woods pitched four innings of scoreless relief to help Radford pull away for an 8-2 win on Sunday over Charleston Southern at CSU Ballpark.
Radford improves to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in Big South play, while CSU falls to 14-11 and 1-5 in conference play.
Woods (WP, 3-0) held the Bucs to two hits over the final 4 1/3 innings and Radford scored six runs in the fourth inning to bounce back from an early 1-0 CSU lead.
Radford's Hunter Higgerson and Chris Coia both went 3-for-5 and Patrick Marshall had a two-run single during the Highlanders big fourth inning. Radford outhit the Buccaneers, 13-6.
CSU's Tyler Weekley (LP, 3-2) worked out of a couple of early jams before Radford's first six batters reached in the fourth. A mental error on a sacrifice bunt behind Weekley added to the woes for the Bucs.
The Bucs' Zack Hagaman went 3-for-4 and came up a home run short of the cycle, and Will Hartsell worked two shutout innings late in his first career appearance.
CSU struck first with two outs in the second. Hagaman yanked a triple inside the bag at first and scored on the first career hit from Andrew Locklear to take a 1-0 lead. Locklear got his first career start at second base.
Radford's Ryan Meisinger worked the first 4 2/3 innings, but was pulled after CSU threatened in the fifth.
CSU returns to action on Tuesday at Savannah State at 5 p.m. The Bucs also travel to The Citadel on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
