Columbia, S.C. - Though Charleston Southern held an early lead, South Carolina scored eight unanswered runs as they topped CSU 14-2 on Saturday.

Mike Sconzo (1-for-2) helped the Bucs start off on a high note with a solo home run in the first inning. South Carolina responded in a big way in the second inning with three runs from two singles. Three more runs came across in fourth inning and a two-run home run in the fifth inning gave the Gamecocks a seven run lead. 

In the top of the sixth, Sconzo reached again after being hit by a pitch. He later scored on Cole German's sacrifice fly. The Buccaneers had opportunities to add more runs, but left runners on base in seven innings.

Cody Morris (2-0) was credited with the win for South Carolina. He threw five innings allowing four hits, two runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Ryan Stoudemire (0-2) took the loss for CSU, pitching three and one third innings and allowing five runs, on five hits, there walks, and three strikeouts.

News & Notes

• Six CSU pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. This marks the 5th game of the year the Bucs have struck out double-digit batters.
• Ryan Rizk (3-for-4) was the only Buccaneer to register multiple hits in either game against South Carolina this season. 
• Two CSU pitchers made their season debuts on Saturday. Jamison Mobbs and Jordan Bridges each pitched an inning and neither allowed a run.
