BSB Preview | Bucs Host Jayhawks in Four Game Series

Charleston Southern baseball is set to host Kansas this weekend for a four game series beginning on Thursday. First pitch from Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark is set for 6:00pm.

Home Cookin'

Charleston Southern won't have to worry about many travel issues through the early part of their schedule. The Bucs will play their first 21 games in the friendly confines of Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark. The Bucs won't leave the Charleston area until March 20 when they travel to face Gardner-Webb.

Young Guns

Interim Head Coach George Schaefer is the second youngest coach in division 1 baseball at 30 years old. Manny Lora at Alabama A&M is 29 and the only coach that's younger than Schaefer.

New Faces

11 players made their CSU debuts over the weekend. Freshman infielder Connor Aldrich was one of the best bats over the weekned, collecting five hits over the weekend, tied for the team's best. Another freshman, Holden Tucker, was among the best on the mound for the Bucs. He threw four and a third scoreless allowing just one hit and striking out four. 

Series History

Charleston Southern has never met Kansas on the baseball diamond. The Jayhawks are 1-2 all-time in Charleston. They played in the 2017 Charleston Crab House Classic, topping The Citadel 7-5 and losing to Liberty and Virginia.

About the Jayhawks

After dropping their opening game with Belmont, Kansas won two-in-a-row to finish 2-1 on opening weekend. James Cosentino was the big bat for the Jayhawks, hitting two long balls in the first weekend, and Jack Wagner was active on the basepaths as he reached base seven times and stole three bases.
