LEADING OFF
Charleston Southern opens the 2022 season against a Power 5 opponent for the third year in a row and the fourth since 2016 as the Buccaneers travel to Oxford, Mississippi. It is also the first time CSU has opened the season against a top-5 ranked opponent in program history.
Last season, the Bucs opened the year at home with a Saturday afternoon contest against Boston College. The Eagles took the opening tilts, 12-4 and 12-1, before wrapping up the series on Sunday with a 10-2 win to complete the sweep.
The Bucs' last win against an SEC opponent came back in the 2018 campaign, as CSU took the finale of the three-game series 4-2 at South Carolina. Charleston Southern would later take a mid-week game from Georgia the following month.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Head Coach
Marc MacMillan is very familiar with Oxford, as the second-year coach is an alum of Ole Miss and served on the baseball staff for seven years. In MacMillan's seven seasons on staff, the Rebels earned 5 NCAA Regional bids, 2 NCAA Super Regional appearances, were SEC Tournament Champions and Runners-up, a College World Series participant, and averaged 40 wins per season.
ON DECK
Charleston Southern will continue the season on February 22 as The Citadel comes into town for the Bucs' home opener. It will be the first of four mid-week meetings between the Lowcountry rivals.
