Early Deficit Hinders Bucs in Game-One Loss

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern baseball team dropped their third-straight game on Friday night, falling to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks by a 13-9 score at Nielson Field.
 
The River Hawks (3-1) jumped out to a comfortable lead early, as they scored a run in the first and six runs in the second to take a 7-0 lead. The Bucs (2-3) responded with a run in the second on a
Cade Conway RBI single that scored Alex Diaz, but the River Hawks responded with three more runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 10-1.
 
Charleston Southern was able to get the bats going third and fifth inning, as Christian Bauman crushed his first homerun of the season, a two-run shot to make it 10-3, and Dakota Miller hit his first home run of the day to make it 10-4 in the bottom of the fifth.
 
After the River Hawks scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Bucs made an effort to come back, eventually hitting themselves back into the game with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The bench came out strong, as BJ Banyon brought in a run with an RBI single, and Dakota Miller made it 13-9 with his second home run of the day. Miller became the 38th player in school history to have a multi-home run game.
 
The Bucs used five pitches total on the night. Sam Massey took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits in 2.0 innings. Parks Ledwell allowed fie runs on six hits in 3.1 innings, Collin Kratzer allowed one run in 0.2 innings pitched, and Christian Robb and Tyler Henshaw combined to throw 3.0 scoreless innings. Friday's game was four hours and 22 minutes.
 
The series continues tomorrow, as the Bucs will try to even the series. First pitch is at 1:30 PM.
