CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern fell 10-7 in the first game of the day to Creighton. This victory clinched the series over the Buccaneers as they had won the Friday game as well.
In the first, Creighton scored with runners on the corners during an at bat with two outs. The runner on first tried to steal second, but during it, the runner on third advanced home before the person in the rundown was tagged out to end the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Buccaneers drew five consecutive free passes for their players and totaled to scoring three runs to take the lead. This loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs with the third coming home off a
Brock Kuehler sacrifice fly. Before Kuehler's at bat, the Blue Jays turned to their bullpen and were able to cruise through the Bucs' lineup for most of the rest of the afternoon.
In the third, Creighton put up a three-spot of their own to regain the lead and then stretched it out in the 5
th scoring another three runs to put the game at 7-3.
The Buccaneers'
Chandler Tuupo hit his 6
th home run of the season in the 6
th inning on a solo shot to right field that went 388 feet. Creighton loaded one three more runs in the final two innings to bring their lead to the highest of the day at 10-4.
In the bottom of the 9
th, Charleston Southern started a small rally scoring three runs during it. Kuehler had a two RBI double to left while Aidan McAskeie came on as a pinch hitter and hit a double to second to score Kuehler. The game came to an end with a pair of runners on and Tuupo at the plate as the potential tying run, however he struck out to end it.
Conway led the team with two hits while
Lucas Pringle, Tuupo, Kuehler and McAskie each had one. Kuehler led the team in RBIs with three while Conway, Tuupo, McAskie and Bogdanchik brought one home apiece.
Sam Massey took the loss as he had the start for the game. He threw 2.1 innings and allowed three earned runs and struck out three batters.
Evan Truitt was next up and went for 5.2 innings, giving up four earned runs.
Lee Watson faced three batters and allowed two runs to score while
Christian Robb finished it off throwing the final inning and allowed just one base runner.
Charleston Southern returns to the field for a midweek contest with Wofford on Tuesday, April 2. The game will be contested in Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark with the first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with the action broadcast live on ESPN+.
