CHARLESTON – Creighton clinched the weekend series sweep over Charleston Southern with a 6-3 win on Saturday night. Their first time having a weekend result being by sweep.
Charleston Southern got on the board first in the game as
Gavin Bogdanchik had a solo homer to center field to put them ahead 1-0.
Nick Timpanelli mowed through the Blue Jays in the first two innings, striking out three and facing just six batters during it, issuing a walk.
In the third, Creighton put up four runs to take the lead. They scored these off a pair of hits, an error and a walk.
The Buccaneers got a run in the fourth to cut their deficit down to 4-2.
Peter Werth got a leadoff double to left field. He advanced to third during
Brock Kuehler's at bat and scored on a
JJ Rivera single to left center.
Charleston Southern got another run closer in the 7
th inning.
Lucas Pringle had a double to right field as a pinch hitter to lead off the inning. He came home to score when Bogdanchik sent a ball to the second baseman that he was unable to field cleanly and was charged with an error.
Creighton scored again in the 8
th inning. Will MacLean had a leadoff triple followed by a sacrifice fly to deep left field to put them ahead at 5-3. In the top of the 9
th, they were able to get another run to make their lead go to 6-3.
Timpanelli had the start on the mound and threw 4.0 innings for a career-high with the Bucs. He allowed two earned runs while seeing four score during his time on the mound. He struck out four batters and gave up two hits and three walks.
Anthony Ramirez was next out and threw the next 4.0, allowing five hits, a walk and one earned run. He struck out four batters as well.
Dylan Matsuoka threw the final inning, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out three batters for each of his outs.
Chandler Tuupo and Werth each had two hits in the game to lead the team. Bogdanchik, Kuehler, Rivera, and Pringle each had one on the day.
Charleston Southern returns to the field for a midweek contest with Wofford on Tuesday, April 2. The game will be contested in Nielsen Field @ CSU Ballpark with the first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with the action broadcast live on ESPN+.
