CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern baseball team wrapped up a two-game series with the Penn Quakers on Wednesday afternoon, winning in dominant fashion by an 11-5 score at Nielson Field.
Charleston Southern (6-7) took advantage of six hit by pitches, four walks and three errors by the Quakers (3-6) to build a comfortable lead. It all started in the bottom of the first inning, when
Alex Urlaub came around to score on a sac fly by
Dakota Miller.
The Bucs added three more in third, as Penn hit four batters, in order, of the Bucs to take a 4-0 lead.
Sam Massey got the Penn batters to struggle all evening. Massey picked up his first win of the season after throwing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four batters.
The Bucs added a run in the fifth inning, five in the sixth and one in the seventh to build a comfortable 10-2 lead after the Quakers got back-to-back home runs in the seventh.
In the sixth inning,
Chandler Tuupo got the inning started with a home run, and later that inning,
Sam Low hit his first homer of the season to stretch the lead. In the seventh inning, the Bucs took advantage of a Quaker miscue that allowed a score to run.
The bullpen was turned to for the final 4.0 innings, with
Parks Ledwell,
Joel Rodriguez and
Dylan Matsuoka seeing action. The Quakers were able to score late in the game again, but the Bucs held strong to seal the victory.

Charleston Southern will cross state borders for the first time this weekend, as they go to Homewood, Alabama to take on Samford for a three-game series. Game one is Friday at 5 PM.
