Bucs Gear Up For Three Consecutive Home Contests as Non-Conference Play Continues

CHARLESTON – After falling short against both South Carolina and UT Martin, Charleston Southern returns to its home floor for three consecutive games in the Holy City: Warren Wilson (Dec. 4), South Carolina (Dec. 8), and North Florida (Dec. 18).

A brief preview of all three opponents can be found below:

Game #11

Opponent: vs Warren Wilson

Date: December 4th

Time: 7:00 PM

TV: ESPN+

  • A program that has never faced Charleston Southern on the basketball court, Warren Wilson will arrive at the Buc Dome on Thursday, December 4th, as CSU's final non-Division I opponent of the season.

  • The Owls from Swannanoa, North Carolina have already played the Piedmont Lions this season – a team CSU defeated on November 25th. Warren Wilson fell to Piedmont on November 18th, 68-85.

  • Tajh Williams is Warren Wilson's front-runner on the offensive end, averaging nearly 20 points per contest (19.7). The 6'2" from Warner Robins, Georgia has already scored 30 points twice this season, and recorded a double-double outing against Brevard College on November 24th with 30 points and 10 boards. Williams' efficiency is also notable as the junior is shooting 53% from the field overall and 48% from three-point land.

  • The Owls are coached by Chris Horton who is currently in his second year with the program. Horton's 2024-2025 group completed the season with a 2-23 overall record, but have already reached last season's win total in just their first four contests of the new year.

  • CSU will definitely hope to capitalize in two key areas heading into the Thursday night contest – three-point making and rebounding. Both categories are areas the Owls struggle in, only making 6.5 threes per game (CSU averages 12.9) and averaging 31.3 rebounds (CSU averages 43.4).

Game #12

Opponent: vs South Carolina State

Date: December 8th

Time: 7:00 PM

TV: ESPN+

  • Although they may achieve a victory at Bethune-Cookman on Friday, December 5th, South Carolina State has yet to win a game this season. However, of their current eight losses, two are against high-major opponents. The others were against Samford (Nov. 7) and Chattanooga (Nov. 19) from the Southern Conference, College of Charleston (Nov. 14) and North Carolina A&T (Nov. 10) from the CAA, and Winthrop from the Big South. Their only single-digit loss was an 81-82 fall at South Dakota on November 23rd.

  • A trio of Bulldogs average nine or more points per game so far this season: Owen Bronston Jr. (13.3), Noah Treadwell (9.4), and Cameron Clark (9.0).

  • Last season, the Bucs traveled to Orangeburg and lost by 19 to SC State. Although the Bulldogs' star in that contest, Drayton Jones, is no longer on the team, SC State is still led by Head Coach Erik Martin. Martin, a former 16-year assistant at West Virginia, is currently coaching his fourth season in Orangeburg. 2024-2025 was his best year to date, finishing with a 20-13 overall record and finishing 2nd in the MEAC.

  • Named the Interim Head Coach early in the 2023-2024 season, Coach Nimley took the helm of the CSU program just days before his first game as head coach. His first opponent as a head coach was South Carolina State, and his first victory would also occur that day, 66-64.

  • Monday will serve as the 38th all-time match-up between the schools separated by roughly 60 miles. SC State leads the series 23-14.

Game #13

Opponent: vs North Florida

Date: December 18th

Time: 11:00 AM

TV: ESPN+

  • A team that finished 8-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference last season, UNF has yet to win a Division I game this season at the time of this preview's writing. Of their seven total opponents, three were other mid-major programs – Wofford, Southern Miss, and Prairie View A&M.

  • UNF is coached by first-year Division I head coach, Bobby Kennen. Kennen is no stranger to Osprey-basketball as this is his 17th season with the program. He joined the staff in 2009, was elevated to the Associate Head Coach position in 2012, and was again promoted in May of 2025 to succeed former HC Matthew Driscoll.

  • The Ospreys average nearly 86 points per contest, and the offensive firepower comes from multiple individuals. Six UNF players average nine or more points a night, including: Kamrin Oriol (17.7), Kent Jackson (13.6), Dalton Gayman (9.4), Trey Cady (9.4), BJ Plummer (9.4), and Mason Lee (9.0).

  • Kamrin Oriol, a 6'3" senior, has recorded three 20+-point performances so far this season. Scoring 30 vs New College, 22 at Wofford, and 20 vs Prairie View A&M. Oriol also played 19 minutes against the Bucs last season (Nov. 7, 2024) and was held to 1-for-6 from the floor as his Ospreys won the contest.

  • Last season's battle between the Ospreys and Buccaneers was one CSU enjoyed moving past as UNF secured the victory 90-66 in Jacksonville.

  • Charleston Southern and North Florida have only met six times in both program's histories, but all six match-ups have occurred in the past two decades and this is the third season in a row the two coastal colleges have scheduled one another. UNF leads the limited series 4-2.
