CSU Men's Basketball Hits the Road for Consecutive Away Games in Week Six of Conference Play

CHARLESTON – After a tough loss to Radford last week in the Buc Dome, CSU moves on to a new week of back-to-back road contents – at High Point on February 4th and at USC Upstate on February 7th.

A brief preview of all three opponents can be found below:

Game #24

Opponent: at High Point

Date: February 4th

Time: 7:00 PM

TV: ESPN+

  • The preseason favorite High Point Panthers, who were picked to win the Big South, defeated CSU in the Buc Dome on January 10th.

  • In overtime, the Bucs lost by only two points, despite HPU shooting 25 more free throws than CSU.

  • In terms of efficiency, no teams in the conference rank higher than High Point. The Panthers rank 4th in the country in Scoring Offense (91.5 points per game) and 16th in Field Goal Percentage (50.6%). Defensively, HPU ranks 4th in the nation in Turnovers Forced Per Game (16.6).

  • The Panthers representative at Big South Media Day, Owen Aquino hasn't posted the offensively-dominant numbers that some college basketball fans expected, but on a deep High Point roster, those numbers haven't been needed to win. Defensively, Aquino's rim-protecting presence is still evident as the big man averages 1.6 blocks per contest (ranked 3rd in the Big South).

  • Cam'ron Fletcher has been the primarily highlighted player on the Panthers' roster this season, despite only playing in two Big South games. The 6'7" graduate student was named to the Lou Henson Early Season Watchlist – only one of two Big South players to make the cut (the other being CSU's Brycen Blaine). Fletcher is averaging 15.8 and nearly 8 rebounds overall this season, including five 20+ point performances.

  • The HPU point guard this season is Rob Martin. Martin transferred to High Point from Southeast Missouri State and is the Panthers' third-leading scorer so far this season (14.1 points per game).

  • A returning wing player from last season's conference championship roster, Terry Anderson has emerged as HPU's top scoring threat this conference season. Anderson is averaging an even 20.0 points per contest through league play, including four 20+ point performances.

  • The Panthers are led by Head Coach Flynn Clayman, who is currently in his first year as a Division 1 head coach. Clayman is no stranger to the basketball program at HPU as he served as the Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the previous two Panther teams (2023-2025).

  • High Point leads the all-time series between the two programs, 29-22.

Game #25

Opponent: at USC Upstate

Date: February 7th

Time: 2:00 PM

TV: ESPN+

  • Through the first half of Big South play, a perimeter trio of Mason Bendinger (15.0), Karmani Gregory (13.1), and Carmelo Adkins (13.1) lead Upstate in scoring. Bendinger has scored 33 points in Upstate's first two conference games. Of Bendinger's two 20+ point performances, one was in an overtime victory at Charleston Southern (Jan. 14).

  • Another Upstate guard, Learic Davis also posted 22 points in the first CSU-Upstate match-up. Shooting 8-of-11 off the Spartan bench.

  • Karmani Gregory, Upstate's representative at Big South Media Day has recorded five 20+ point performances already this season, the most recent coming on January 23rd against Gardner-Webb (22 points).

  • The Spartans are led by Head Coach Marty Richter. Richter began his Division 1 head coaching career last season at USC Upstate and has already surpassed last year's win total (6).

  • Charleston Southern leads the all-time series between the two programs, 14-8.
