LEXINGTON, S.C. – On Saturday, Charleston Southern won their fifth Big South Conference championship in the past six years. The Bucs defeated the No. 4-seeded NJIT Highlanders, 4-2.
CSU set the tone early by taking the doubles point. The duo of Amike Botha and Carle Botha earned a commanding 6-2 win on court two, while Camila Molina Barranco and Brenda Yoris matched that score with a 6-2 victory on court three to clinch the opening point.
Charleston Southern carried that momentum into singles play, collecting three decisive victories to seal the championship.
Camila Molina Barranco battled for a strong 6-2, 6-4 victory over Petra Koszo on court one, pushing CSU a point closer to the title. On court four, Carlota Farres Carreter followed with a straight-set win over Irene Cocero, 7-6, 6-1, giving the Buccaneers a crucial third point. The championship-clinching point came from true freshman Amike Botha, who delivered a composed 6-4, 6-3 win on court five against the Highlanders' Lusia Hepcal Barcan.
NJIT picked up wins on courts two and three, but the Buccaneers' depth proved to be the difference in the neutral-site final.
