After a week off, the Charleston Southern women's soccer Lady
Bucs will return to action Wednesday when they travel across town
to play The Citadel at 4 P.M. at the Military College's Washington
Light Infantry Field.
CSU enters the game at 4-4 on the season, having dropped their
last match last Wednesday, 2-0, at conference foe Winthrop. The
Lady Bucs will look to rebound from that loss and to improve their
record to 3-1 in matches played in Charleston, with the only loss
coming to fellow Lowcountry foe College of Charleston one month
ago.
The Lady Bulldogs of The Citadel enter the game at 3-9 on the
season. Citadel and CSU have played two common opponents so far
this season: USC-Upstate, whom The Citadel beat 3-2 (CSU defeated
the Spartans 3-1), and Wofford, whom The Citadel lost to 3-0 (CSU
defeated the Terriers 1-0). Leading the Bulldogs offensively this
season are freshman Jessa Scott and junior Emily Haller, who have
combined to score six of The Citadel's seven goals on the season
(Scott has four goals, Haller two). In goal, senior Britini
Bunnell has lead the way, appearing in all 12 games for the school
near the Ashley, starting 10.
The Bucs and Bulldogs drew 1-1 in their 2006 encounter at
Buccaneer Field, with Lindsey Trexler (Asheville, N.C.) scoring the
day's lone CSU goal off an assist from Sarah Catenacci (Mt.
Pleasant, S.C.). However, the Bucs had considerably more success
in their last trip to WLI Field, winning 5-1 in 2005, with current
Buccaneers Trexler, Briana Murphy (Boone, N.C.) and Emma Mattsson
(Helsingborg, Sweden) all scoring on that afternoon.
The Bucs will rely on these seasoned vets as well as new
faces to the rivalry to achieve a similar success on Wednesday.
