Moore, Carter Earn Player of Week Honors

Senior guard Chris Moore (Morganton, N.C.) and freshman forward Omar Carter (Charlotte, N.C.) were named Big South Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week respectively for the week of November 19-25, the Big South Conference office announced on Monday.

Moore earned the honors for an impressive scoring week in which he lead the team with 19 points per game. Moore's best effort on the week was a career-high 27 point performance against North Florida Friday in a 72-61 CSU win. The senior captain connected on 10 of his 12 field goal attempts on the night, including four of his six three point attempts. Moore scored several key buckets down the stretch, including draining a 24 foot three-pointer with the shot clock expiring that helped CSU build its lead to seven. Following the three, Moore went on to score seven consecutive CSU points, including a key floating leaner with 1:45 left that provided the Bucs with a 62-54 cushion.

Moore also scored 11 points against Auburn Monday night in CSU's loss to the Tigers. In that game, Moore connected on three of his eight three point attempts. For the season, Moore leads the team in points per game (15.2 ppg), ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage (57.1%) and ranks second in three-point field goal shooting percentage (48.3%).

Omar Carter, meanwhile, took home Frosh honors for the successive double doubles he posted in the games against the Tigers and Ospreys. On Monday against Auburn, Omar dominated the offensive glass, pulling down no less than eight offensive boards en route to a 12 rebound night. The Charlotte native also connected on six of his field goal attempts in the second half and would score 16 points on the night, a team high for the game. Carter followed this performance by dominating the defensive glass against North Florida, pulling down 11 defensive rebounds and 12 total rebounds for the game. Omar scored 10 points against the Ospreys, including several key free throws down the stretch, to provide the Bucs with their 11 point winning margin.

Carter's performances provided a major boost to CSU's rebounding performance in both games. In spite of losing to Auburn, the Bucs actually outrebounded the Tigers 40-36 on the night, thanks in large part to 27 offensive rebounds. In the North Florida game, the Bucs outrebounded the Ospreys 46-30, highlighted by limiting North Florida to just five offensive rebounds as they sought to fight back into the game in the second half. Thanks in large part to these performances, the Bucs currently lead the Big South in rebound margin, having outrebounded their opponents by a 6.2/game average on the year.

Moore, Carter and all of the Bucs will return to action tonight, when they travel downtown to face Lowcountry rival The Citadel at McAlister Field House at 7:05 P.M.
