For a second time this season, CSU freshman guard Jamarco Warren
(Gainesville, Ga.) was recognized as the Big South New Balance
Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on
Monday.
Warren began his week Monday with a team-leading 22 point effort
against The Citadel. Warren was particularly effective from three
point range against the Bulldogs, as the Georgia native connected
on six of his 11 three point attempts (including four makes in the
first half) to finish the day one shy of the program record for
threes in a single game.
Warren followed this effort with 21 points against The College
of Charleston on Wednesday as he once again led the team in
scoring. Warren shot eight of 15 against the Cougars and three of
seven from distance on the night. The freshman's 14 second half
points enabled CSU to keep the College within shouting distance
until the game's dying moments.
Warren then capped his week by scoring eight points (including
shooting two of three from three point range) in just 18 minutes as
the Bucs coasted to a 91-31 victory over Florida Christian. All
told, Warren had one of the best shooting weeks of his career in
the past week, as he connected on 19 of 39 field goal attempts
(48.7%) and 11 of 21 from deep (52.4%). Warren also had one of his
best weeks distributing and protecting the basketball, as he had 11
assists to just six turnovers.
Liberty senior forward Alex McLean, meanwhile, took home Big
South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week
honors. McLean averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in leading
Liberty to a 2-0 mark last week with wins over Longwood and
Niagara. He scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the
Lancers on Nov. 27, and his 33 points were a national-high for the
day. McLean was 13-of-19 from the floor ( =.684 percent) and he
recorded two assists, one block and one steal in addition to his
third double-double of the year. Saturday against Niagara, McLean
grabbed eight rebounds and scored 12 points on 5-of-7 from the
floor. His rebound with eight seconds left helped seal the
victory, as he was fouled in the process and sunk both free throws
to extend Liberty's two-point lead at the time. For the week,
McLean was 18-of-26 from the field ( =.692), 8-of-11 from the line
( =.727) and averaged 2.5 assists.
Warren and the Bucs will return to action tonight at 7:30 P.M.
when they face the Mercer Bears at CSU Field House.
