Bucs Upset UAB 4-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -----The Buccaneers took advantage of their opportunities, claiming the doubles point early, Friday at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. The result in doubles proved to be the difference, as CSU took the match 4-3 against Nationally-ranked UAB.
UAB's No. 1 duo of Kruno Despotovski and Adrian Tollstam led CSU's Jonathan Dean and Lee Schutte by a 6-3 score only to see the Bucs rally for an 8-6 win. The Blazers also looked to be on their way to victory at the No. 3 doubles position as Alex Emery and Thomas Weiss had a match point on Charleston Southern's Quentin Guichard and Babar Ali Khan Akbar, but the Bucs' tandem rallied for a 9-8 (4) win.
CSU also won at No. 2 doubles as Murat Atilla and Chris Peek edged UAB's Tim Bauer and Hanns Spangenberg, 8-6.
In singles, the Buccaneers took pivotal three-set wins at No. 1 and 4. Dean defeated Weiss at the No. 1 position, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 while the Bucs' Schutte rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Despotovski.
UAB (5-5) got a win at No. 3 as Bauer diposed of Peek, 6-3, 6-2. The Blazers also took victories at No. 5 as Emery eased past Atilla, 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 6 as Thomas Petrich edged Akbar, 6-3, 6-7, 12-10.
