The Bucs concluded their regular season on a winning note with a victory over the College of Charleston, 4-3, this afternoon at CSU Tennis Courts.
Once again, this Buccaneer win got off on the right foot for Mike Baker's squad in doubles play, as CSU captured the doubles point for the ninth time in their last 12 matches. The number one tandem of Guy David and Grega Teraz brought their regular season to a close by winning their final match 8-6, a win that extends their winning streak in doubles to twelve in a row and their season record to 16-4 overall. Also victorious was the duo of Steven Dean and Chris Peek, who won for the sixth time this year in posting an 8-5 win at number two.
In singles play, CSU would win just enough individual matches to ensure that victory would be theirs. Though the Cougars were victorious at both number one, where Omer Abramovich triumphed over Dean 6-4, 6-0, and number two, where Mickael Boyer won over David 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, the Bucs were able to win on the day thanks to their depth, as Mike Baker's squad was victorious at three, five and six.
Among the winners was Teraz, who defeated CofC's Steven Myers at number three 6-2, 6-3. The win improves the freshman's season record to 15-5, a team best, and marks his sixth consecutive singles win on the year. In the other CSU victories, Murat Atilla was the winner at number five 6-1, 6-2, while Luis Maselli captured the Bucs' win at number six 7-5, 6-1.
CSU's regular season comes to a close at 12-8 on the year, while the College falls to 7-16 in 2008. Both teams will now turn their attention to their respective conference tournaments, with the Bucs' tournament starting next Thursday, April 17, in Rock Hill, S.C. on the campus of Winthrop University.
