After traveling around the region for the last couple weekends, both the women's and men's Charleston Southern tennis teams will find safe landing at CSU Tennis Courts for their respective home openers this weekend.
The women will get the ball rolling Friday at 1:00 P.M., when they will entertain the visiting UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawks. The Lady Bucs will look to rebound from a 4-3 loss to Campbell and a 6-1 loss to East Carolina last weekend, while UNCW enters the match 4-1 in the spring season. Freshman Aodhnait Lombard has been an early sensation for Mike Baker's women's squad, as the Ireland native has an unbeaten 2-0 record in her singles matches thus far in 2008. Lombard and the Bucs will face a stiff test in the Seahawks, as each UNCW player has a .500 or better singles record thus far this season, highlighted by junior Lauren Isenhour's 3-0 mark.
The men will then begin their home portion of the schedule Saturday with a key conference matchup against the Radford Highlanders. The match will be a strong early test of both teams' Big South mettle, as both teams were highly regarded entering the season. Baker's male Bucs were picked to finish third in the conference in the preseason, while the Highlanders were a near unanimous selection to re-capture the Big South championship they won last season. The Bucs will be looking to avenge two losses to Radford last season and to rebound from an 0-3 start to the 2008 campaign, while the Highlanders enter the match with a 1-0 record on the season.
Stay tuned to CSUSports.com for recaps of both matches upon their completion over the weekend.
