Freshmen Grega Teraz and Keith Whittingham posted singles wins Saturday, but their efforts would not be enough for victory as preseason Big South favorite Radford overcame the Bucs 5-2 in the conference opener for both squads.
Teraz and Whittingham's victories occurred at numbers three and six respectively. Teraz's win, the first of his CSU career, came 7-5, 6-4 over Radford's James Lloyd, while Whittingham had an even easier time with Paul Boslet, dispatching the Highlander freshman 6-2, 6-4.
Whittingham also recorded a doubles victory on the day, combining with junior Chris Peek to record an 8-3 victory on number three. Radford would be victorious in the other doubles matches, with the closest encounter an 8-6 triumph for Martin Sayer and Zach Watson over CSU's freshman Grega Teraz and senior Guy David on number one.
The Highlanders continued to show their class in singles, where they were victorious in four of six matches, including a 6-0, 6-4 victory for Sayer over Dean on number one. Both David (number two) and sophomore Luis Maselli (number five) pushed their opponents to a third set by winning the second set in their matches, but the two fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 and 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 respectively.
The loss drops Charleston Southern's men's team to 0-4 on the year, while Radford moves to 2-0. The Bucs will return to action with yet another conference home game, as CSU will square off with the Liberty Flames on Saturday, February 23 at 1:00 P.M.
