Steven Dean posted a 6-3, 7-6 victory on number one Saturday, but the Bucs fell 6-1 to drop to 0-3 in the early stages of their spring dual matches season.
The Pirates picked up the first point of the day by sweeping the three doubles matches. CSU's Guy David and Grega Teraz gave the Pirates the most trouble before falling short as ECU's Jarsolav Horvath and Henrique Viana prevailed 9-7.
Dean's singles win would give CSU their first point, but it would prove to be the Bucs' only point on the day, as the Pirates swept the remainder of the singles matches. CSU sophomore Luis Maselli pushed his opponent, Henrik Skalmerud, to three sets by winning the first set, but Skalmerud prevailed 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
The Bucs will return to action on Saturday, February 16 when they will face the Radford Highlanders in what will be both the home opener and the Big South opener for Charleston Southern in the 2008 season. Action will begin at CSU's tennis courts at 1:00 P.M.
