The CSU men's tennis team posted its second Big South win of the season in comfortable fashion, defeating the rival Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 6-1 Thursday afternoon at CSU Tennis Courts.
The day got off to a good start for the Bucs with the capture of the doubles point. Keying the doubles win was another dominant performance from the number one tandem of Grega Teraz and Guy David. Their 8-2 win at number one was the eleventh win in 12 matches for the duo, and their eighth consecutive. The win coupled with an 8-6 win by Steven Dean and Chris Peek at number two ensured that CSU would start the day with a 1-0 edge.
The Bucs would not cool much during singles play, as Mike Baker's team captured wins in five of the six individual matches on the afternoon. Dean (6-1, 6-3) and Teraz (7-5, 6-1) won particularly quickly at numbers one and three to post what was the eleventh win for each player on the year. Luis Maselli followed these straight set victories with one of his own, defeating Coastal's Joseph Withers by a 6-1, 6-4 scoreline at number six to give the Bucs their fourth point and ensuring that the match would be theirs.
CSU would add two additional wins when Peek overcame his foe 6-1, 7-6 at number four, improving his Big South record on the year to 3-1, and when Murat Atilla won his third match of the year at number five, winning a third set super tiebreak over Plamen Tzvetkov 10-5. CSU's only singles loss of the day came at number two, where Guy David lost a hotly contested match to Dmitry Vlaskin, also in a supertiebreak by a 10-5 score.
The win improves CSU to 9-7 on the year and 2-2 in Big South play. The Bucs will now conclude conference play for the regular season with a two-game road trip, which will begin at UNC Asheville Saturday at 11 A.M.
