CSU Cruises to a 99-50 Win Over Trinity College

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern won in a 99-50 rout over the Trinity College Tigers, Monday at the CSU Field House. The Bucs registered points from 13 different players in the process, while shooting 47% as a team. CSU improved to 3-1 on the season while Trinity fell to 1-4.

Freshman Jeremy Sexton led a cast of four players in double-figures, hitting five threes for a team high 17 points, while handing out a game best seven assists. Kelvin Martin recorded five dunks on the night en route to 14 points and five assists. Kenny Mitchell and Austin Johnson also chipped in with 10 points apiece off the bench. For the Tigers it was Petrie Addison who led all players with 26 points on 10-19 shooting.

Trinity took their only lead of the game with a 2-1 score to start the game, but CSU responded with a 14-4 run, including four dunks from Martin in the process. The Bucs continued to pour it on, making it 12 unanswered points, thanks to a Billy Blackmon dunk which made it 24-6 at the 12:56 mark.

The Tigers managed a few strong finishes at the basket, but it was all CSU in the first half. The Bucs went up by as many as 28 in the opening frame, taking a 38-10 lead with 7:05 on the clock. Addison managed 16 first half points for Trinity, keeping the game from getting out of hand, but a Warren three at the buzzer made it a 49-30 score at the intermission.

The Bucs came out of the gate with a 7-0 burst in the second half. Martin threw down a windmill dunk, followed by a Warren, Kenny Mitchell alley-oop connection, that made it 56-30, a minute into the half.

CSU steadily increased their advantage, going up 69-35 on a Sexton mid-ranged jumper with 14:18 on the clock. Another 10-0 run, capped off by a Blackmon layup brought the score to 84-39 with 6:40 remaining in the game. The Bucs got contributions from several bench players, outscoring Trinity 50-20 in the final 20 minutes, for the eventual 99-50 finish.

CSU forced 26 turnovers, dished out 31 assists on 42 field goals and controlled the rebounding margin 50-37.

CSU will enjoy a short Thanksgiving break, before traveling to play Air Force on Saturday, November 28, at 9 p.m. ET.
