BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Charleston Southern finished out the Camel Stampede Tourney with a 1-3 record, after dropping a 5-0 decision to the host team Campbell on Saturday, at the Eakes Athletic Complex. The Buccaneers suffered their first shut-out of the year, to go along with their lowest hit total of five. CSU dropped to 4-3 on the year while Campbell improved to 4-3.

The Bucs had a promising start after a double by Amy Trenkamp and a single from Megan Hall in the top of the first. CSU however, could not convert on the scoring opportunity, leaving one left on base and ending the inning by grounding out into a double-play. The Camels took the momentum and ran with it, tallying two runs in the bottom of the first after a two run homer by Karlie Love.

Lauren Stephen of Campbell continued her outstanding play, holding the Bucs hitless over the next four innings. The Camels added to their lead with one more in the third and two in the fifth to take a 5-0 advantage.

CSU showed some life in the sixth, thanks to a Megan Lombard single, but another double-play prevented the Bucs from reaching the scoreboard. Their last chance came after an Ashley Fowler double in the seventh, but again CSU could not take advantage and left to on base before a final 5-0 score.

Fowler led the team with 2 hits in the game while three others recorded 1 for 3 efforts. Sondra Vetter picked up the loss to move to 2-1 on the year after 2.2 innings work and 3 strikeouts. Jamie Wellons pitched 3.1 innings relief and also picked up 3 strikeouts.

The Bucs will try their luck in another away tournament next weekend, when they travel to Georgia Southern to face off with five teams, starting with the host team on Feb. 20th at 1 p.m.
