STATESBORO, Ga. - Charleston Southern traveled to the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic Friday, as they split the first two of five games, with a 4-2 loss vs. GSU and a 10-1 win over Oakland, at Eagle Field. With the split, the Bucs moved to 5-4 while the Eagles improved to 5-2 and Oakland dropped to 0-2 on the year.

CSU managed just two runs in game one, despite having ten hits, compared to six hits from GSU. Five players for the Bucs had two hits, including Brittany York and Brittany Giannini, who each had an RBI.

CSU reached the scoreboard in the bottom of the second after a lead-off double from Gail Matsushima. York followed that up with an RBI single to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage. CSU had a chance to extend that lead, but York was caught in a pickle between third and home, leaving one on base.

The Eagles immediately followed that run, with two of their own in the top of the third. GSU took advantage of reaching on an error to start the inning, before an Amanda Hall double scored two runs.

York singled again in the fourth, after Matsushima was hit by a pitch. The Eagles converted on a double-play to prevent the Bucs from having a big inning, but Giannini stepped up with an RBI single to tie the game at 2 apiece.

Two scoreless innings brought up a two run top of the seventh, for GSU. CSU had a chance for some late game heroics, after back-to-back singles from Kristin Kelleher and Giannini. Unfortunately, the next three batters were retired in order, handing the Bucs a 2-4 loss. Jamie Wellons pitched a complete game, allowing 4 hits and 4 runs in the loss.
