CSU Women's Basketball loses to Texas Tech 82-57

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Charleston Southern University women's basketball team suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of the Red Raiders of Texas Tech University at a score of 82-57. The loss drops the Bucs record to 3-2 (0-0 BSC) on the season and improves the Red Raiders to a peerless 5-0 (0-0 Big 12).

The Red Raiders of Texas Tech were dominating on points in the paint in the first frame, with a 28 to 10 advantage. The Red Raiders also shot 63 percent from the field in the first half.

The Bucs shot only 39 percent from the field in the first half. Despite their early shooting woes the Bucs only trailed by a score of 42-29 going into the half.

Early in the second half, Buccaneer senior Katie Tull hit three consecutive threes and singlehandedly had a nine to zero run against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Her final three pointer of that sequence cut the Red Raiders' lead to seven with 15:55 to play in the contest. That would be the closest the Bucs would get to the lead.

From that point on the Red Raiders would assume control of the game and continued to further bolster their lead.

The Red Raiders continued to dominate the points in the paint throughout the second half with a 34 to eight advantage over Charleston Southern. Making it a total of 62 to 18 points in the paint for the game.

The Buccaneers' leading scorer in the losing effort was Katie Tull. She continued her hot shooting streak with 5-of-11 from behind the arc. Tull has been in the zone as of late, shooting 55 percent from three-point land over the Bucs last three contests.

Leading Texas Tech in scoring was junior center Kierra Mallard who had 24 on the night to go along with five blocks.

The Bucs will play the second leg of the four team round robin tomorrow when they take the court against the Bearkats of Sam Houston State. This will be the first ever meeting between the Bucs and Bearkats.

Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m EST).
