LUBBOCK, Texas - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team lost to Sam Houston State today at a score of 76-70. The loss drops the Bucs to a 3-3 (0-0 BSC) record on the season and improves the Bearkats of Sam Houston State to 5-1 (0-0 Southland) on the season. This was the second leg of the World Vision Classic Tournament hosted by Texas Tech University.

Today's game was a game of runs, as the game of basketball so often is.

The score remained tight throughout the first half, the lead changing hands on several occasions. However, Sam Houston State went on a 12-0 run to close the first half, and increase their lead to thirteen by the end of the first frame.

The Bucs were down but not out. They started the second-half with an 11-0 run of their own to reduce the deficit to four.

The Bearkats would again stretch out their lead but the Bucs fought all the way back to tie the score up with 2:38 remaining. This was after being down as much as fifteen points earlier in the game. A jumper by CSU guard Helen Terry knotted the score up at 66 all, but Britni Martin scored nine straight points to help put some distance between the Bucs and Bearkats.

Despite the loss, the Bucs amazingly had three different players log double -doubles on the night. Lakeitha Alston, Lydia Johnson, and guard Helen Terry all had double digit rebounds and points. They each pulled down 10 rebounds on the night for the Buccaneers, that mark being a career high for Terry.

Also having a double-double in the game was Britni Martin who had a game high 37 points and 10 rebounds, including a solo 9-1 run. The Bearkats also got quality production from their bench, with a 21 to 5 bench scoring advantage.

CSU will play in their final game of the World Vision Classic tomorrow at noon when they square off against American University.

This will be the first ever meeting between the Eagles of American University and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
