ATHENS, Ga. - Charleston Southern dropped game two at the Georgia Softball Classic, falling 8-3 vs. the South Alabama Jaguars Saturday, at the UGA Softball Stadium. The Bucs struggled on defense at times, allowing 12 hits and runs in four separate innings, while committing two errors. CSU dropped to 7-6-1 on the young season, while USA improved to 7-5.

Shayla Cullum continued to play well at the Georgia Tourney, posting two hits and two RBI to lead the way for the Bucs. Megan Lombard recorded another multi-hit game, with two hits and two runs scored. Jessica Peters-Brock also chipped in with an RBI hit. The Jaguars got three hits, two RBI and two runs scored from Brittany Fowler.

CSU got on the board first, posting a run in the bottom of the first, thanks to an RBI single from Peters-Brock. Lombard walked to start the inning and advanced to third after a stolen base and wild pitch, before crossing the plate.

Kimberly Hobbs was in the circle to start, throwing two scoreless innings for the Bucs. USA managed to post three runs in the third however, thanks to five hits. The Jaguars had a leadoff triple, followed by a RBI single and a two-run homerun for Haley Hopkins. From there CSU brought in Caitlin Allen in relief, who got out of the inning with a strikeout and popup.

USA continued to pour in the runs, scoring in each of the next three innings. Two runs in the fourth and fifth, followed by a run in the sixth pushed the Jaguar advantage to 8-1.

The Bucs had just two hits in that time, with only one scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fifth. CSU had three strikeouts in the inning however, and couldn't manage a hit in the sixth.

After holding USA scoreless in the seventh, the Bucs attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back hits from Lombard and Megan Hall put runners at second and third with one outs. A two RBI double from Cullum cleared the bases, making the CSU deficit five. The runs were too little too late however, as the Jaguars wrapped up the game with consecutive strikeouts for a final 8-3 score.

Hobbs picked up the loss and dropped to 2-4, after three runs and two and a third innings work. Morgan Druhan threw for six and a third innings to earn her first win, recording three runs and 11 strikeouts to move to 1-3.
