GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Charleston Southern baseball team opened a three-game set with #6 Florida on Friday night by falling, 6-0, at McKethan Stadium. The loss is the second in a row for the Buccaneers and drops them to 5-9 on the season.

Anthony Markham (0-2) made the start for CSU and took the loss despite delivering a solid performance. The junior gave up six runs in seven innings of work, but only two of the runs were earned. Alex Panteliodis (4-0) blanked the Buccaneer offense in seven innings on the mound, earning the win.

Florida (10-2) broke the game open with a five-spot in the 2nd inning. After Austin Maddox scored on a fielding error and Kamm Washington doubled the lead with an RBI groundout, the Gators tagged Markham for back-to-back home runs. Mike Zunino hit the first, a two-run shot, and Matt den Dekker followed with a solo bomb to make the score 5-0.

The Buccaneers threatened a comeback in the top half of the 4th. Nick Chinners and Tyler Thornburg led off the frame with back-to-back singles, but Matt Still followed with a double play groundout that wiped Thornburg off of the base paths. CSU put runners on the corners when Derek Smith drew a walk, however, Panteliodis got Walt Quattlebaum to fly out, ending the threat.

The Gators added an insurance run in the 6th inning. Maddox led off the frame with a double that hugged the right field line; later, he came home on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Thompson, ending the scoring at 6-0.

Chinners picked up two hits on the night, running his streak of consecutive multi-hit games to eight. Zunino paced the Gator offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate.

The Bucs and Gators will play the middle game of their series on Saturday, with Charlie McCready scheduled to get the start for CSU. First pitch in Gainesville is set for 4:00 p.m.
