CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern started off with a pair
of wins at the Low Country Invite, taking 5-2 and 8-1 wins over
Presbyterian College and Dayton, respectively. The Bucs posted 21
hits on the day, led by Shayla Cullum's four hits and five RBIs.
With the wins, CSU (9-8-1) secured a spot in the championship game
tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
Erin Kegley had a team high five hits through the two games, to
go along with a double and a RBI. Megan Hall also had a big day,
tallying four hits, four runs scored and two RBI. Megan Lombard
chipped in with three hits and three runs scored.
In game one vs. the Presbyterian Blue Hose (7-4), the Bucs got on
the board in the first inning and held on the lead for the
remainder of the game. Lombard singled to start the game, and
would later score on a Kegley RBI hit. With home teams being
decided by a coin flip, CSU was ahead 1-0 in the top of the
first.
The Bucs added one more in the top of the third, using a Cullum RBI
triple to take a 2-0 advantage. The Blue Hose answered with a run
of their own in the bottom of the inning, pushing the score to 2-1
through three innings.
Two blank innings from both teams would follow, before CSU exploded
for three runs in the sixth. After back-to-back hits from Kegley
and Cullum, a pair of RBI hits from Trea Steele and Jana Matthews
did the damage. Presbyterian managed to get out of the inning
after a pitching change, but the Bucs took a commanding 5-1
lead.
The Blue Hose managed one more run in the bottom of the sixth,
after an RBI sacrifice fly made it a three run deficit. That would
be the last run of the game however, as CSU held on for a 5-2 win.
Sondra Vetter picked up the win to improve to 5-3, after allowing
six hits and two earned runs in a complete game. Mary Gordan fell
to 2-2, after just two and two thirds innings work and one earned
run.

(6-8), with a season high 12 hits as a team, en route to eight runs
scored. CSU lit up the scoreboard to start the game as the visitor
again, posting two runs in the first. The Bucs took advantage of a
Flyer miscue, with RBIs from Kegley and Jessica Peters-Brock to
score two unearned runs.
CSU returned the favor in the bottom of the first however,
committing an error before Dayton tallied a run. Caitlin Allen
started in the circle for the first time of the year for the Bucs,
getting out of a first inning jam to strand two.
CSU added to their lead in the third, recording two more runs after
three hits. The Bucs had three consecutive hits to start the
inning, capped off by a two RBI single from Cullum. CSU couldn't
