CHARLESTON S.C. - The Bucs of CSU had another quality out of conference victory today, with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over the Dolphins of Jacksonville University. The game was a part of The Nike Invitational, which included CSU, University of Maine, The Citadel and Jacksonville University. The win gives the Bucs the overall victory in the pseudo round robin tournament.

At the outset the game it appeared as if it was going to be a wide-open affair when Senior forward Marky Boyce nodded down a cross into net sent in from Allison Lewis in the third minute. It was Boyce's fifth goal of the season.

The Dolphins first goal came in the off a rebound put back from Jelena Vrcelj. The shot caromed off the cross bar and into goal. Back on level terms heading into the break.

The Dolphins were controlling possession and organizing well on the attack early in the second half. Jacksonville's second goal came from a run out off a punt from goal. Lisa Hensley found herself one on one with the keeper who was forced to come off her line, and put a slow roller past her and into the side netting. The Dolphins had taken back the lead in the 47th.

The entire flow and momentum of the game changed in the 53rd minute when Boyce shimmied around the keeper and sent a ball toward a now open net. A recovering defender ran into goal and blocked the certain score with an outstretched arm. The referee cited Jacksonville Central Defender Kelsey Latham with a red card and she was sent off. CSU was subsequently awarded a penalty kick. Staci Ulichnie's penalty attempt was stopped by the keeper and out for a corner.

From that point forward the game seemed to be played entirely in the Bucs attacking third. However, for the next 20 minutes shots went begging for the Buccaneers. That was until a scrappy Boyce tracked down a mishandled ball by the keeper and put it in. The teams were back on level terms with about 15 minutes left to play in regulation.

For the next fifteen minutes the Dolphins survived the barrage from the Bucs' attackers and were able to hold the score line to force overtime. The tide was turning against the weary Dolphins having played nearly the entire second frame a man down.

The overtime was slated for two ten-minute periods but the Bucs' only needed 4 minutes to put in the game winner. A ball found Michelle Dennis in space on the wing and she sent a high bending cross into a waiting Boyce. Boyce headed the ball against the grain, wrong footing the goalkeeper and the ball rolled into the side netting ending the game.

What an outstanding performance by Bucs' senior attacker Marky Boyce. This afternoon's hat trick marked Boyce's second multi goal game this season as well as her second game winner of the young season. If she continues at this pace, the accolades are sure to pile up at the end of the season once again for the Bucs' best finisher.

The Bucs out of conference schedule continues with an away match against Georgia Southern a week from today. Kick off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
