SERIES HISTORY
The Buccaneers and the Seahawks will meet for the 22nd time in
program history on Friday, with UNCW holding the 20-1 series lead.
The Seahawks took last season's meeting 79-57 in North Carolina.
CSU's lone win came in the 1992-93 season when they defeated the
Seahawks 84-70.
vs. THE CAA
UNCW is one of five teams from the Colonial Athletic Association
that the Bucs have faced and is the only program CSU has claimed a
win over. The Buccaneers are 1-27 all-time vs. Teams from the CAA,
having faced Georgia State (0-3), Hofstra (0-1), James Madison
(0-2) and William & Mary (0-1).
THAT WAS A BIG ONE
Charleston Southern's 82-77 win marked the Bucs' first win over a
major program in women's basketball. It also put the Bucs at 5-1
vs. nonconference opponents in the Palmetto State. Lakeitha Alston
hit 12 field goals vs. the Tigers, falling one shy of the CSU
record of 13 set by Pam Tolbert in 2007.
BIG D
One of the common themes in CSU's win over both the College of
Charleston and Clemson was a strong defense presence. The Bucs had
a season-high 16 steals and five blocked shots vs. the Cougars.
They continued the trend vs. the Tigers, holding Clemson to just
one 3-pointer (0.91 %) and allowing a season-low 14 field
goals.
ALSTON GETS THE HONOR
After scoring in double figures for every game thus far, Lakeitha
Alston's hard work has paid off as she was named the Big South
Choice Hotels Player of the Week on December 6. Alston shot 63
percent from the field and averaged 25 ppg to help the Bucs go
2-0. She recorded a double-double with a team-high 31 points and
10 rebounds vs. the Tigers, and also put up 19 points and shot 67
percent vs. CofC.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buccaneers pulled out an 82-77 upset win over Clemson. CSU
shot 49.2 percent from the field and 35.7 percent on 3-pointers.
Lakeitha Alston (31 pts), Anicia Dotson (13 pts) and Rachelle
Coward (13 pts) led the way for the Bucs.
