CSU Downs Troy, 4-3, in Thrilling Match

TROY, Ala. - Charleston Southern earned its first victory of the season, downing Troy University, 4-3, in a tightly-contested women's tennis match Sunday, Feb. 13 at Troy's Lunsford Tennis Complex.
CSU improves its record to 1-3 with the victory over the Trojans, while Troy is now 2-4 on the season after falling to Stetson and Charleston Southern this weekend.
The Buccaneers trailed the best-of-seven match, 3-1, after Troy claimed the doubles point and two out of the first three singles matches. CSU posted victories in the final three completed singles contests, including three-set wins by Olga Makhova at No. 1 and Brooke Pletcher at No. 3 to clinch the 4-3 victory.
Troy won all three doubles matches, as Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt defeated Makhova and Marija Dzakovic, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. The other two Troy pairs won by 8-4 margins.
Dzakovic earned a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-4, over Olfa Dhaoui at No. 2 singles. Troy's Lyubov Dorofeeva defeated Alexandra Walters, and Olivia Battye defeated CSU's Heather Isbell, both in two sets.
With the Buccaneers needing to win the final three matches to claim a team victory, Alia Nour won at No. 5 singles over Rosaura Ramirez-Vega, 7-6, 6-3. Makhova dropped the first No. 1 singles set to Grymel, 6-1, but won sets two and three, 6-4, 6-3, to tie the match.
Pletcher then downed Guijt, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 for the No. 3 win, providing the winning margin for the Buccaneers first triumph of the season.
The Buccaneers will open the home portion of their schedule Thursday, Feb. 24, playing host to No. 74 North Florida. The Buccaneers will then face Gardner-Webb Saturday, Feb. 26 at home to begin the conference slate.
